The mission of Evangel University is to provide opportunities for Assemblies of God students to develop academically and intellectually in an accredited Christian liberal arts educational program; and to inspire these students in a Pentecostal environment to develop spiritually, emotionally, and culturally in order to serve God and their fellow man in their chosen careers.

Evangel University is a coeducational senior college of arts and sciences, and confers baccalaureate degrees. It is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, the Council on Social Work Education, and the National Association of Schools of Music. The Missouri State Department of Education recognizes Evangel graduates who have completed the teacher education program by issuing teaching certificates.

The college has been approved for study for nonquota foreign students and is listed in the directory of the U.S. Office of Education. The school has also been approved as an accredited college for four years of veterans training under Public Law 550 and 634.

Evangel University is owned and operated by the General Council of the Assemblies of God and endorsed by its Commission of Christian Higher Education
